Marjan hill Viewpoint in Split, Croatia - Sanja - Tour Guide in Split

Split City Tour - Extended Tour (3 hours)

Tour highlights: Diocletian's palace, Medieval town, Marjan hill

This tour takes you for a walk in the Old Town of Split (UNESCO's World Heritage Site) and Marjan hill for about 3 hours. Firstly, we will visit the Palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian of the 4th century (the oldest part of the town). We will explore the Basements of the Palace or the Substructures (with entrance fees), and admire the main square Peristil, the Palace fortifications with Golden, Silver, Iron and Bronze gates, the Mausoleum / St. Domnius's Cathedral (external visit), Jupiter's temple / Baptistery (external visit), medieval houses of noble families, a small former Jewish ghetto with a synagogue that is still active...

The second part of the tour takes us to the medieval neighborhood built outside the Palace and, there, we will explore fishermen's and farmers' markets (both active only in the morning), some famous squares: Pjaca (People's square), Fruit square and Prokurative (the Republic square), walk down Marmontova street, and learn about the socio-political lifestyle under Venetian, French, Austrian-Hungarian and Yugoslavian rule. What a rich history!

Finally, we will go to Varoš, a charming 17th to 19th-century former fishermen's neighbourhood, where we will visit a small square called Šperun with many traditional restaurants, and we will start our ascent going up a stairway (approximately 100 steps) on the slopes of Marjan hill/ park all the way up to the First Viewpoint and the old Jewish cemetery. You will get the chance to see a truly memorable view of the entire town, the mountain behind it, and the sea with the islands in front of it. There is a little coffee shop close by where you can relax and enjoy the view!

We will end the tour on Riva promenade by the sea, or, if you prefer, at the viewpoint on Marjan hill.
