Marjan viewpoint in Split, Croatia - Sanja, private tour guide in Split

Split city tour - extended tour (3-4 hours)

120 EUR (per private group, up to 15 persons)

We will go for a walk in the streets and squares of Split for about 3-4 hours. Firstly, we will visit the Palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian of the 4th century (the oldest part of the town) with the small medieval neighborhood developed inside it - a very interesting mix of styles. We will also visit the Basement level of the Palace (the Substructures), the main square Peristil, the Palace walls with 4 gates, the Mausoleum / St. Domnius's Cathedral, Jupiter's temple / Baptistery, medieval houses of noble families, a small former Jewish ghetto with a synagogue that is still active...

The second part of the tour takes us to the medieval neighborhood built outside the Palace and, there, we will discover a fish market and a green market, some famous squares: Pjaca, Fruit square and Prokurative, and learn about the socio-political lifestyle under Venetian, French, Austrian-Hungarian and Yugoslavian rule. What a rich history!

Finally, we will go to Varoš, a charming 17th to 19th-century former fishermen's neighbourhood, where we will visit a small square called Šperun with many taverns (traditional local restaurants) that serve Dalmatian specialties, and we will start our ascent going up a stairway (approximately 100 steps) on the slopes of Marjan hill/ park all the way up to the 1st viewpoint and the old Jewish cemetery. You will get the chance to see a truly memorable view of the entire town, the mountain behind it, and the sea with the islands in front of it. A sight you will not forget! There is a little coffee shop close by where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the view!

We will end the tour on Riva promenade by the sea, or, if you prefer, at the viewpoint on Marjan hill.
