Aspalathos is the name of the Greek settlement that was once situated at the same location where the town of Split is located today. It is from that word that the name of the town comes from and it is, in fact, the name of a flower - Spanish broom. In Dalmatia, it is said that, in May when this flower is in bloom, its scent has aphrodisiac qualities.
