This tour takes you on a 1-hour walk through Split’s UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, with a focus on Diocletian's Palace. We will visit the Palace’s Basements or Substructures (external visit) and explore its main square, Peristil, the Palace fortifications with the Golden, Silver, Iron and Bronze Gates, the Mausoleum / St. Domnius's Cathedral (external visit), Jupiter's Temple / Baptistery (external visit), medieval houses of noble families, and a small former Jewish ghetto with a synagogue.
Towards the end of the tour, we will take a short walk through the medieval neighborhood just outside Diocletian's Palace, briefly visiting the famous Pjaca (People’s Square) and Fruit Square. We will touch on how Split’s life and character evolved under Venetian, French, Austrian-Hungarian and Yugoslavian rule. You’ll also get recommendations on what to do and see after the tour by yourself.
We will end the tour on Riva promenade by the sea.
